On the evening of March 19, a sad news came: Guo Jiaxuan, an 18-year-old player of Beijing Guoan Football Club, died in Beijing Tiantan Hospital due to ineffective treatment. Unfortunately, the next day (March 20) was supposed to be his 19th birthday.
In early February this year, Guo Jiaxuan went to Spain with the team to participate in a training camp organized by the Beijing Football Association. On February 6, in a match against a local team, Guo Jiaxuan collided with an opposing player, suffered a head injury that led to a coma, and was later diagnosed with brain death. After the accident, the medical staff of both teams rushed into the venue for on-site rescue, ambulances and helicopters arrived at the scene one after another, and Guo Jiaxuan was transferred by rescue helicopter to a local authoritative neurologist hospital in Spain for treatment. After nearly 4 hours of all-out rescue, the hospital declared him brain dead.
On February 8, Guo Jiaxuan's father arrived at the Spanish Hospital to accompany his son. Under the coordination of many parties, on February 13, Guo Jiaxuan left Spain through a medical charter flight of an international rescue organization, was transferred back to China for treatment, and arrived in Beijing the next day and was sent to Tiantan Hospital for further treatment. However, after more than a month of all-out rescue, he still failed to save his life.
Guo Jiaxuan was born on March 20, 2006 and is a member of the Beijing Guoan U19 echelon and plays as a defender. He has shown talent in football since he was a child, participating in competitions such as the National U Series and the Youth Super League, and winning the title of best player. In 2023, he was selected for the Chinese U17 national men's football team; In June of the same year, he was successfully selected for the Bayern World Team roster and was the only Chinese player selected that year. He has a dream of leading the Chinese team to the World Cup and has an infinite future.
On March 20, the official Weibo of Beijing Guoan Football Club posted: "It is with great sadness that we inform you that Guo Jiaxuan, a youth training player in Beijing Guoan, unfortunately passed away on the evening of March 19, 2025. We have lost a child who loves football, may Jiaxuan rest in peace! Thank you to people from all walks of life for their concern and help since Guo Jiaxuan was injured. The club will continue to do its best to properly handle the aftermath and provide all necessary help and support to Guo Jiaxuan's family. May Jiaxuan go all the way! ”
On the same day, the Beijing Football Association also issued a message: "On the evening of March 19, 2025, Beijing Guoan youth training player Guo Jiaxuan unfortunately passed away. We are deeply saddened and extremely sorry for Jiaxuan's death! Since Jiaxuan's accidental injury on February 6, 2025, Spanish time, we have made every effort to coordinate medical resources to meet the needs of our families as much as possible. In order to avoid interference with medical work by unrelated personnel and to take into account the feelings of family members, we have not continuously disclosed information, including the competition process and medical plans. After coordinating with the Spanish side, we have obtained the video of the training match, notarized it throughout the process, and organized experts to analyze it. We will make every effort to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Jiaxuan and assist the family in the aftermath. ”
According to Guo Jiaxuan's brother, so far, the family has not received the video of the game at the time of the incident, the process of being sent to the hospital, and Guo Jiaxuan's insurance information. Previously, the family had also sent lawyers' letters to the Beijing Football Association and Guoan Club, the specific content of which has not been disclosed.
Guo Jiaxuan's departure has deeply grieved the Chinese football community. Although his football dreams came to an abrupt end, his love and dedication to football will be remembered.
